I Do, Still, a deeply personal, beautiful and ultimately traumatic story of images by Mimi Fuenzalida inspires a level of universal human empathy few can. Perhaps it’s their seemingly domestic neutrality on the visual surface that allows for such emotional impact as a whole. The artist’s use of quotes on each image, brief insights of context, is a welcome addition to the stills. The series left me stunned and poignantly humanizes an important point of socio-cultural consideration.

Work In Progress….

A Bigger Story is a project that was ignited by my deep connection with Machi Florencio, a Mapuche elder from Villarica, Chile. Following a spiritual calling and connection to his ancestors he’s been guided to exchange knowledge, and form partnerships with his First Nation brothers and sisters in Canada. Guided by the Eagle and the Condor prophecy, he believes that working together North and South will help strengthen their message to the rest of the world to care for Planet Earth.

Neighbourhood Tales, A project born to foster community at a time when we were asked to be in isolation, bringing hope and support to the more vulnerable. It was a celebration of life when life was the most fragile. A fundraiser for two local charities that culminated in a neighbourhood concert- filmed individually and streamed worldwide.

Decoding Bodhi - is an ongoing project that explores the mind of my teenage step daughter who is biracial, living in a time of great political and social unrest and change where being a girl transitioning into a woman, a person of color and a teen immersed in the world of social media affects and informs on a daily basis the way she is shaping herself.

I believe that tuning my lens on a micro-world such as hers, not only empowers those who see themselves represented by the subject but also opens a conversation about the inner world that exists beyond the external behaviors that, in many cases, are hard to decode on adolescents.
